Extramarital Affairs Are Rampant These Days, Why?

It’s truly a troubling issue in so many marriages today. We are going to unveil the complexity of of this thing called infidelity and explore the underlying motivations behind extramarital affairs in living marriages.

Let me begin by saying that being married to a faithful, loving, and caring husband while still engaging in extramarital affairs can be a complex and deeply personal issue, with various underlying factors contributing to such behaviour. Therefore, it’s crucial we approach this issue of INFIDELITY with compassion, understanding, and a commitment to Biblical principles. While the complexities of extramarital affairs may seem daunting, it’s essential to seek guidance from God’s Word and the wisdom of the Holy Spirit in addressing these issues.

Loneliness and Emotional Disconnect: The Bible teaches us that marriage is a sacred covenant between a husband, a wife, and God. If feelings of loneliness or emotional disconnection arise within the marriage, it’s vital to seek solace and companionship through prayer, open communication with your spouse, and seeking guidance from mature Christian mentors or counselors.

Depression and Emotional Trauma: In times of emotional turmoil or trauma, it’s crucial to lean on God’s promises for healing and restoration. Through prayer, seeking professional counseling, and finding support within your Christian community, individuals can find hope and healing from past wounds that may contribute to extramarital affairs.

Abuse and Lack of Care: The Bible condemns any form of abuse within marriage and calls husbands to love their wives as Christ loved the Church (Ephesians 5:25). If you are experiencing abuse, it’s essential to seek safety and support from trusted individuals, Church leaders, and legal authorities. Remember that God desires marriages built on mutual love, respect, and care.

Economic Challenges and Frustration: Trusting in God’s provision and seeking His guidance in times of financial difficulty can alleviate feelings of stress and frustration within the marriage. As Christians, we are called to steward our resources wisely and support one another in times of need (Philippians 4:19).

Lack of Sexual Satisfaction: The Bible encourages spouses to honour one another in the marriage bed (Hebrews 13:4). If you are struggling with sexual satisfaction within your marriage, prayerfully communicate your needs and desires with your spouse, seek counsel from trusted Christian mentors, and consider seeking professional help if necessary.

Ego and Pride: The Bible warns against pride and selfish ambition, urging us to humble ourselves before God and others (James 4:6). Instead of seeking validation from outside relationships, focus on nurturing a Christ-centered marriage built on humility, sacrificial love, and mutual respect.

Desire for Adventure and Material Gain: The pursuit of worldly pleasures and material possessions can lead to spiritual emptiness and brokenness. As Christians, we are called to find our satisfaction and fulfillment in God alone (Matthew 6:33). Resist the temptations of the world and focus on building a legacy of faithfulness and integrity within your marriage.

Revenge: Rather than seeking revenge or retaliation, the Bible calls us to forgive as Christ forgave us (Ephesians 4:32). If you have been hurt or betrayed within your marriage, seek God’s healing and restoration, and strive to extend grace and forgiveness towards your spouse.

Inborn or Hereditary Factors: While genetic predispositions may influence our behaviours, as Christians, we are called to overcome the flesh and walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). Through prayer, reliance on God’s strength, and accountability within the Christian community, individuals can resist temptation and live lives that honour God.

In all circumstances, remember that God’s grace is sufficient, and His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). By surrendering our struggles, doubts, and fears to Him, we can find healing, restoration, and renewed strength to navigate the complexities of marriage with faith and obedience to His Word.
