Interesting facts about plantain in Nigeria.
The Hausa say it is not very common with them and they don’t have a name for it other than plantain. A few however say that it is called Agade/Agada.
Yoruba call it Ogede agbagba generally and use it to prepare “dodo ikire”, “amala” apart from the general use known to all like “dodo”, “boli”/”bole”, etc.
The Igbo however have so many names for it: Ojioko, Jioko, Okirima, Pirima, Ipaa, Abrika, Ogede (by some communities in Anambra North and Central and Delta North), Ukom, unere etc.
Other tribes too call it Ogede and other names. It is definitely not as popular as banana.
