Tuwo is the general name for swallows made from grains
Tuwo is the general name for swallows made from grains across most Northern States in Nigeria, Niger and in many West African countries.
There are many types of tuwo depending on the type of grains used. Tuwon masara is made from maize, tuwon shinkafa from rice, tuwon dawa from guinea corn and tuwon alkama from wheat.
Tuwo goes with a variety of soups such as Miyan Kuka (baobab leaves soup), miyan kubewa (Okra soup), miyan taushe (pumpkin soup), miyan karkashi( sesame leaf soup).
Most households prepare tuwo beyond what they can consume at once and the extras are reheated the next day. This is called dumame in Hausa and the taste is really great.

You know I only thought tuwo was only akin with tuwo shinkafa(rice swallow) until I stayed in Plateau for about a year that I realized it literally refers to everything swallow!
