Asamani had control of the castle and traded with many merchants before he sold it back to Norway-Denmark.
During the colonial era, a man named Asamani ,together with his people went to the Osu castle to buy guns from the Dutch, when they got the guns they asked the Dutch to fill the guns with gun powder and bullets to test the guns, the Dutch’s were adamant but Asamani insisted they wanted to test the merchandise before purchasing them.
After intense back and forth the Dutch agreed to do that, Asamani and his people each got a gun, filled it with gun powder and bullets, fired and tested the guns to feel the power then pointed the guns at the Dutch’s to surrender and held them captives, the leader of the Dutch tried to escape through the windows of the castle but he fell to his death.

He’s from Akwamu. You can find his statue in front of Adome Bridge when you’re traveling from Accra to Ho. In the statue you find a man holding keys to castle together with gunpowder and a gun.
