Ejagham language is spoken by the Ekoi people (of the Bantu stock), an ethnic group in Cross River State, Nigeria and extending eastward into the southwest region of Cameroon (in Eyumojock and Keaka). It is one of the major languages in Cross River after Efik.

The highest concentration of Ejagham speakers in Cross River State (CRS) is found in Ikom, Etung (central CRS) and Akamkpa in the South. The Ejagham-Qua cluster of Calabar, Akpabuyo, Bakassi and Odukpani (in southern CRS). In northern CRS, the Bakor-speaking subgroup of Ejagham is found in Ogoja (clans of Nkum, Abaniyum and Ekajuk).

These groups speak several varieties of the same Ejagham which are mutually intelligible.

They are hardworking, resilient and hospitable people, culturally known for farming (of a variety of crops including yams, cassava, cocoa, etc), hunting, music and dancing.

Ejagham names include:

  1. Ching-efang – Child is more than wealth.
  2. Ekpin-enob – Life is good.
  3. Obasi-ahim – God has done it.
  4. Onorme – My goodness.
  5. Okot-nse – The joy of the Lord.
  6. Enàreh – Blessing.
  7. Oyeb-mbinghi – Happiness.
  8. Oreng or Ekep – Peace.
  9. Obasi-sam – Thank you God (or God, thank you).
  10. Ekom-obasi – The power of God.
  11. Mmohgini-obasi – I will not forget God.
  12. Ebarim – Bright or brightness.
  13. Agbor – Strong person or the chosen one.
  14. Ejama or Ome – My own (or mine).
  15. Ebu-obasi – God’s time.
  16. Nneayeba – A sweet fellow.
  17. Ofa – Fortune.
  18. Erom – Celebration.
  19. Onor-obasi – The goodness of God.
  20. Enearenga-obasi or Eneare-obasi – Who is like God?
