About Wole Soyinka:
- Birth: Born July 13, 1934, Abeokuta, Nigeria
- Parents: Father, Samuel Ayodele Soyinka, was an Anglican minister and headmaster of St. Peters School in Abẹokuta; mother, Grace Eniola Soyinka (née Jenkins-Harrison), was a political activist and owner of a shop in the nearby market
- Occupation: Nigerian playwright, novelist, poet, and essay.
- Awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature
- Taught at several universities, including Cornell University, Emory University, and Harvard University
- Received the Europe Theatre Prize in 2017
- Published works include “The Lion and the Jewel,” “Death and the King’s Horseman,” and “Aké: The Years of Childhood”
- Served as a Professor of Comparative Literature at Obafemi Awolowo University.
