Whatever You Don’t Permit Does Not Come to You: Exercising Authority and Boundaries in Life

Rooted in Bible teachings about authority and boundaries, is the truth of this powerful principle – ‘whatever You Don’t Permit Does Not Come to You’. As believers, we are given authority over our lives, and the choices we make determine what we allow or disallow in our spiritual, emotional, and physical environments. Jesus emphasized this authority in Matthew 18:18, saying, “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” This verse underscores the power we have to permit or prohibit what enters our lives.

Setting boundaries is a crucial aspect of exercising this authority. Proverbs 4:23 advises, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” By guarding your heart and mind, you control the influences that shape your thoughts, actions, and ultimately, your destiny. If you do not permit negativity, harmful influences, or destructive behaviours into your life, they will not have the power to impact you.

Furthermore, this principle applies to resisting temptation and evil. James 4:7 instructs, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” When you refuse to allow sin and temptation into your life, you effectively block their influence, keeping your spiritual path clear and focused on God’s will.

However, this principle also requires active participation. It is not enough to simply wish away negative influences; you must consciously reject them and stand firm in your convictions. Ephesians 6:13 encourages us to “put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground.”

In life, the boundaries you set and the permissions you grant determine what comes into your life. By exercising your God-given authority and maintaining firm boundaries, you can create a life filled with peace, righteousness, and blessings.
