When we are busy saying that an Igbo actor should play the role of Okonkwo in the Things Fall Apart adaptation,

When we are busy saying that an Igbo actor should play the role of Okonkwo in the Things Fall Apart adaptation, have we considered how many people would be interested in watching an international movie where a non-international actor is the lead? Or do we think the movie is only for Nigeria? The fact is, this is a business, and the owner of the movie wants it to reach every corner of the world. To achieve that, they need to cast an international and popular actor like Idris Elba.

With Idris Elba, more than a billion people would watch it, and the movie would still tell our history as Ndígbo. So for anyone coming online saying that only an Igbo actor can play the role properly, it simply shows they don’t fully understand what acting is all about.

Let me use Olu Jacobs as an example. He is Yoruba, but in my opinion, he portrays Igbo kings better than many others. So, don’t be surprised if Idris Elba plays Okonkwo, and people will start recognising him as Okonkwo afterward because he well he will play the role.

Moreover, nothing stops Nigerian/İgbo movie industry from producing a movie about Okonkwo or other Igbo historical stories, but instead, they keep making films about how Obinna uses his mother for money rituals.
