13 January 1931 🗓️ – Florence Nwanzuruahu Nkiru Nwapa, the first African woman publisher of novels is born in Oguta, Imo State, South East, Nigeria 🇳🇬.

Her novel “Efuru”, published in 1966, is among the first English language novels by a woman from Africa.

She later went on to found Tana Press in 1970, also the first to be owned by an African woman.

Florence Nwapa is being acclaimed the mother of modern African literature. She was the forerunner to a generation of African women writers.
