Not only are the girls from the Mambilla Plateau probably the most beautiful women in Nigeria and of the comeliest damsels on Earth, but their pulchritudinous faces are matched by the idyllic nature of their landscape. I took this photo on Monday, January 24, 2000, just outside Nguroje, before Gembu.
People say Plateau State is scenic and appealing to the senses. I agree. But Mambilla Plateau is by far more exotic than anywhere in Plateau State. And I am not just referring to the land.
Please consider visiting Mambilla on your next holiday. You will love it. The air quality is so clean and pure that you feel strong just by breathing. And the ground provisions there are out of this world. Apple trees grow there almost wild, and strawberries grow there, too.
Then, there is the highland tea plantation. Miles and miles of lush greenery. It is indeed a sight to behold.
As you bike, drive or walk in the Plateau, spring waters can unexpectedly start gushing from a nearby rock, or you could encounter a non-violent mountain Gorilla walking like a Nigerian big man. You can’t make this up.
But be respectful of the Fulani people there. Understand their way of life. They are innocent and unsophisticated. But that does not mean they are anodyne or uncivilised. Do not go there with your Southern sense. They can smell it a mile away, and it will put them off.
Just go there and relate with them human to human without putting on airs.
