Abusive Husbands Didn’t Fall from the Sky – Someone Raised a Boy Wrongly

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6

The foundation of a man’s character is laid in childhood. No abusive husband suddenly became violent; he was raised with unchecked behaviours that grew into destructive traits. Many mothers, in their pursuit of financial stability, have abandoned their primary role as homekeepers and molders of their children’s character. While economic demands are real, the absence of intentional parenting breeds dysfunction.

From a young age, a boy who throws tantrums, disrespects his mother, and exhibits aggression is often excused with laughter. “Boys will be boys,” they say. But what happens when that same boy, now a man, raises his hands against his wife? The traits that were dismissed as “cute” in childhood have become weapons of oppression in adulthood. The Bible warns, “Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die.” – Proverbs 23:13. Correction is a form of love, yet many parents have abandoned it.

A boy who is never taught humility and respect for others grows into a man who demands control, dominance, and submission. He believes love is expressed through power rather than through service and sacrifice. Yet, true Biblical manhood is modeled after Christ, who loved the Church and gave Himself for her (Ephesians 5:25).

We must stop the cycle at the root. Teaching boys responsibility, respect, and self-control is far easier than trying to reform abusive men. The home is the first school of life, and women play a pivotal role in shaping future husbands and fathers. Mothers, do not hand over your sons to society to train – because society may raise a monster.

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.” – Proverbs 29:17.

Much love to all mothers out there…!
