IGALA TRIBE ARE OF IGBO ANCESTRY
(They’re descendants of Eri)

Oral traditional history traces the origin of IGALA to Aguleri in present day Anambra State. It’s in history that Eri who’s generally accepted as the founder of Igbo people once settled at the bank of the river where he made an altar of onyx at the confluence of Ezu na Omabala rivers. Due to annual flooding of the place Eri moved upland to Eri-aka near odanduli stream and finally to where he erected Obu Uga (Obu-Gad). Eri had the following children;

Agulu (Aguleri) OKPARA or Opara
Attah (IGALA) Ulu-okpara
Oba (BENIN) Osote-Ulu-Okpara
Menri (Nri)
Adamgbo (Iguedo the only daughter of Eri)

All the children of Eri lived together with their father in Aguleri until after the death of Eri.

when he (Eri) died, his offsprings departed the land and founded various offshoots and kingdoms across the Niger River but not without disagreements.

As it has always been in Igbo tradition, when a father dies, the first son, called OKPARA inherits the land and properties belonging to the father and decides who to share it with. Now Atta the second son called Ulu-okpara was a very huge, tall and feared man amongst Eri’s children, he was not pleased with this decision and went on to contest it, an action that caused the first Eri-Ògú (fight).

After his defeat, Attah the second son of Eri left and founded Igala kingdom, the present day Idah (East confluence of the niger Rivers) while Oba moved to found Benin (Igodomigodo Idu) . Menri later left Aguleri where he founded Nri kingdom (a kingdom described as the land of peace and solace to those ostracized in faraway land). Eri first son Agulu-eri (Aguleri) remained behind and inherited his father’s land and expanded the kingdom.

Forget the corrupted words, infusion of Yoruba and Hausa’s who later invaded the IGALA land and assimilated them.
This events took place Before Common Era (BCE) and not (AD) and It’s a well known oral history amongst the true IGALA people.

  1. You do have a percentage of truth but de important one is that Igbo is not a people but an order or agreement with natural laws and principles. What does that mean? If you accept Igbo you can’t be a Christian nor Muslim cos Igbo is wholesome and has everything within it precisely to preserve and save life, thats why it’s not been spread with violence because accepting it comes with a whole lot of price/consequences that de weak can’t keep. Again, accepting igbo is not throwing your traditions away but infusing life principles that Igbo comes with, that’s why some people at plateau state are also called Igbo hausas, they too have Igbo traditions they practice. As for Atta, son of Eri, let me give you an assignment. There is a village in njaba LGA imo state, called Atta NWAberi meaning Atta NWA Mba eri. So when you make it look like eri is the founder or father of Igbo, then make the family the founder of other places, it shows you know little or nothing about what you are saying. Eri and nri is just order of priesthood. Eri is a priestly order not father of Igbo then nri is moving forward. Thats enough for now, Atta is the only one that didn’t settle within omambala and going by the way the present day Igbo, where they are concentrated, name their places after themselves. Why dis atta, they’re many attas but they come with their parents name eg Atta ukpo, atta igala, atta ikeduru, atta nkpologwu etc. hope it makes sense now? Atta NWA Mba Eri in imo says nothing but everything cos the surnames there is actually de same with those at umuleri and agulieri but affected by regional dielect of imo and omambala with other identical things. There is another thing you/we need to consider like a form of migration before settlement because most of the artifacts found in igboukwu were also seen at plateau state too which they tagged settlement within migration and in migrating not all reaches the final destination of settlement.. please stop pushing Igbo on people, Igbo hard for Igbos that’s why Christianity won and condemned the keepers of the laws and called them OSU and ume and many more.. Igbo man first problem was abandoning the laws that elevated him and that’s our primary reason for suffering not even Nigeria or the west. There is a proverb that says. Till Igbo man locates ebe akuru ya na ofo, he no go see peace. In a nutshell anybody can be Igbo if you accept to keep the laws of nature and save life cos Igbo means LIFE GUIDE not a people, Igbo we call Igbo today acceptEd it and derailed thats the price we are paying and we’ve lost every form of dignity, civilization , advancement and authority. Maka na nwata tinye aka na ajo ogwu, ndi ichie ekpo ya ISi eke.

    at the end i can still be wrong, but put facts together and let’s see together..
