The Hidden Cost of Political Imposition and Silent Agony
The Hidden Cost of Political Imposition and Silent Agony
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3).
The political endorsement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima by the All Progressives Congress (APC), which sparked internal uproar, provides a powerful case study on the danger of assuming loyalty without genuine consent. Historically and Biblically, unity imposed through coercion, fear, or opportunism often leads to division, rebellion, or disgrace.
Several governors across Nigeria, once firmly rooted in the parties that gave them political life, were compelled, whether by pressure, ambition, or promises, to defect to APC. This defection, orchestrated by a party desperate to consolidate power ahead of the 2027 general elections, was mistakenly seen as victory. But what they failed to see is that forced loyalty is shallow, and it births silent suffering, hypocrisy, and ultimately, chaos.
The Bible says in Proverbs 11:14, “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” APC’s approach ignored this principle. Instead of inclusive consultation, they opted for imposition. Now, the house appears to be breaking from within, not because of the endorsement itself, but because the foundation of the endorsement was faulty.
History is replete with the failure of forced alliances. From the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11) where men united without God’s consent and were scattered, to Nigeria’s own record of political instability born out of forced coalitions, the lesson remains the same: unity must be genuine and people must be carried along.
Endorsement without engagement is hollow. Party crossovers without ideological alignment are dangerous. And silent followers, when finally provoked, become the loudest protesters.
As APC fights its own internal battles following the endorsement saga, it becomes clear: you can bring people into your party, but you can’t force them to believe in you.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).
Let leaders learn this: real power lies not in control, but in consensus. God is never mocked; while men plan their manipulative strategies, He executes justice in His own way, and time.
