THE FIRST NIGERIAN MILITARY MEDICAL DOCTOR 🇳🇬👨‍⚕️
Meet Dr. Walter C. Eze (MA, MD) — the first Nigerian Military Medical Doctor.
He was born on November 13, 1925, into the royal family of His Royal Highness Michael Eze Okofia I, the Eze n’Ukpo and traditional ruler of Ukpo Kingdom in Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State.
Dr. Eze studied at the famous Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha from 1941 to 1945. He later went abroad to Canada to study Medicine, and furthered his studies in the USA where he earned a Master’s degree in Experimental Surgery.
While in Canada, he served in the Royal Canadian Army and rose to the rank of Captain.
On returning to Nigeria, he became the traditional ruler of Ukpo community. He also founded the popular Toronto Hospital, Onitsha, where he served as Medical Director.
Dr. Walter C. Eze is the elder brother of the famous oil mogul, Engr. Arthur Eze.
In 1959, he married Justina Nebechianya Okafor, and they were blessed with four children.
