FACT CHECK:
Mungo Park was not the first human to see River Niger.
He was simply the first European to document it for other Europeans.
The river had long been known to empires like Mali, Songhai, and Gao.
It was central to trade, religion, and life itself.
African maps and oral history already knew the river by name, by course, by value.

Mungo Park did not discover River Niger. He was introduced to it.
