Calls On United States, Others To Free Biafra From Nigeria Over Killings

From Chris Mocha, Owerri

The UNPO member State working for the re-establishment of the State of Biafra through non-violent methods, yesterday asked Trump’s adminstration, the European Union, and others to free Biafra from Nigeria.

The Minister for İnformation of the Biafra internal government (BİG) Comrade Anthony İjeomah cited what he described as existential threats of the Igbo tribe in Nigeria.

According to him, ‘İf indeed, the world truly stands for justice, respect for human dignity and freedom of nations, then let it begin by acknowledging the fact that the Igbo of S’east are facing existential threat in Nigeria’.

The existential threat of the Igbo Is real, he said, adding It is about life and death. It is what happened when a people’s identity, language, culture, land, and future are deliberately targeted, suppressed, violated or erased.

In the present day Nigeria, the Igbo ethnic nationality lives under constant existential threat. We face it not as an occasional incident, but as a daily reality — a slow, silent, and systematic dismantling of our existence.

When peaceful Biafran villages are attacked or bombed by armed herdsmen and they were allowed to go scot-free — that is an existential threat.

When soldiers raided the homes of Ndigbo across Biafraland without accountability — that is an existential threat.

When a people are excluded from key national appointments including the presidency, denied basic infrastructures, and left out of mainstream development plans — that is an existential threat of a people.

When individuals are arrested for waving Biafra flags, carrying a pamphlet or plastic identification cards of members or simply expressing their right to Self-Determination as enshrined in the United Nations Charter — that is not democracy but a deliberate attempt to externinate a people.

There is no war in Nigeria but the Nigerian security forces have killed over 3,600 members of non-violence BIM-MASSOB from May 23, 2000 – May 22, 2013, the Minister said.

We, as a people are not asking for pity — rather the leadership of Biafra internal government (BİG), in collaboration with BİM-MASSOB are demanding for United States, and others to accord recognition to Biafra as an independent Nation from Nigeria.

Biafrans are not asking the world to feel sorry for us because we are not victims begging for attention, but rather for justice, and recognition for the oppressed.

İjeomah said, ‘Biafra is an emerging State standing tall, saying look at our plights, hear us, acknowledge our truth and stop pretending as if we do not matter.

When your children vanishes without justice… when your youths who are harmless members of a peaceful Organization are hunted and jailed for their beliefs… when mothers are raped by Hausa and Fulani lepers in the North and Yoruba of South West, and they were denied justice in Nigeria’.

Part of the statement said, ‘the story of New Biafra cannot be told without honoring Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of MASSOB, at this time when many would have chosen the path of violence, he instead chose peaceful means to achieve his set out goals and objectives’.

When provoked, and his houses set on fire by the Federal government , his members killed, as a lawyer, he turned to the law. When oppressed, detained sometimes without trial, he had always responded with non-violence.

Going further, in line with the Montevideo convention of 1933, the MASSOB’s decision never to retailate attacks from Nigerian security personnel was not weakness rather it was a strength with wisdom.

Because of this courage, Ralph Uwazuruike’s BIM-MASSOB had on July 31st 2020 secured Biafra as the 46th -member – of -Unrecognized Nations and People’s Organization, UNPO.

Biafra has a functioning government, peacefully established on December 30, 2019, in line with the Montevideo Convention of 1933 — a recognized international treaty that outlines the criteria for Statehood, stating that Nigeria was fully aware of this Convention.

Continuing, Comrade İjeomah, İnformation Minister to the İnternal government of Biafra stressed that Ralph Uwazuruike’s leadership has turned an existential threat against the Igbo into a platform for hope and lawful resistance — and will never fight another civil war with Nigeria to achieve our Statehood.

We, as the oppressed peoples in the occupied territory by Nigeria, respectfully call upon the United Nations, the European Union, the United States, the African Union, and all defenders of human rights and international justice to among other things;

Not to look the other side to what is happening in Biafraland, never to play double standards while Nigerian security forces externinate a people – Igbo of S’east.

According to the Biafra government’s Spokesperson, If justice matters in the war ravaged Ukraine, if human rights matters are to be observed and respected in Gaza, then the same standard must also apply to Biafra, he fumes.

Existential threats, it said are not always loud, they often come quietly, dressed in the silence of global indifference, hence, BIM, MASSOB have raised our voices — not in violence, but in honesty believing the world will act now to free Biafra from Nigeria.
