LET US LEARN FROM CROWS
LET US LEARN FROM CROWS
Crows are considered by many to be the most intelligent birds on earth. They can solve complex problems. They have great memory, and they are wonderful investigators and researchers.
When one of them dīes, they gather around not just to mourn but, more importantly, to find out the cause of dęath.
If they find out that it was a particular food or drink that was responsible, they will circulate the message so that everyone will begin to avoid the food or drink.
That’s not all; they will tell their future generations to avoid it.
If it is another bird or animal that is responsible, they will also begin to avoid it. They can identify faces and can also react differently to faces they recognise as threats.
But come down to the people living in Nīgeria. The cørpse of a human will lie along the road, and humans will be driving and walking past it.
It might lie there for days. Even the p0lice, mīlitary, and g0vernment officials will see it and past by.
At the end, the identity of the c0rpse is left unknown, just as the cause of děath is.
Meanwhile, every one of them is praying for long life and prosperity without knowing that we are the ones to work for the realisation of that prayer by finding out the causes of others’s misfortune so as to avoid a recurrence.
In Igboland many people are currently down with kidney and liver disease; rather than finding out the cause, we are more interested in raising funds for treatment. Treatment that has little or no hope of being successful.
The rest of the world where there is constant electricity understands the urgency of finding the causes of strange or suspicious illnesses and dęaths.
People have told me to stop comparing Nigeria with countries with steady electricity like Germany. This is why I want to compare us with crows. Let’s learn from crows.
