WHO’S AFRAID OF IGBO NAMES IN LAGOS?
🔥 WHO’S AFRAID OF IGBO NAMES IN LAGOS?
First, it was Ezeagu Street. Then Okokomaiko started sounding “too foreign.”
Now, one by one, Igbo-named streets and bus stops are disappearing from Lagos — quietly, systematically, and without a word to the people who built parts of this city with sweat and sacrifice.
But let’s be clear:
📍Igbos didn’t just move to Lagos — they helped make Lagos what it is today. From Alaba to Aspamda, Balogun to Boundary, their presence is woven into the fabric of the city.
So why the renaming spree?
Is it politics? Is it fear? Or is it a calculated erasure of identity?
🚫 You can repaint the signboards, but you can’t erase truth.
📢 This is not just about names — it’s about history, dignity, and belonging.
Lagos doesn’t need fewer Igbo names.
It needs more unity, more honest recognition, and less silent division.
💬 Let’s talk. Let’s resist the quiet erasure.
