Rtd Chairman of May and Baker and once Defense Minister of Nigeria TY Danjuma killed my uncle Adekunle Fajuyi the 1st military Governor of Western region. My mom’s aunt was one of his 3 wives. Danjuma led the July 29th 1966 coup against the Igbo military officers who planned January 1966 coup. After abducting Ironsi and Fajuyi from the Government house in Agodi, Ibadan, Danjuma whose only goal was to kill Aguyi Ironsi the head of state ended up torturing and killing both as Fajuyi insisted to go with his boss an act of loyalty.
The Hausa military officers killed several Igbos too. Residents in Markurdi and Igbo military officers all over their huge Igbo community. This was the coup that according to BBC experts “decapitated” Nigeria🇳🇬 Ojukwu then started the Biafra war to separate Nigeria.
When our uncle Adekunle Fajuyi was murdered in the 1966 counter coup, he had no house of his own and died a poor man. Late Aunty Eunice never remarried and lived a great life. The kids were so young. It was Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialasiwajubat as Lagos state governor who later built her a mansion and some members of Afenifere who helped educate the kids in school. All the children are now like me in their 60’s. I was about to turn 2yo the following week in August 1966.
