One of Amenemhat III’s most famous accomplishments was his construction of two pyramids. The first, known as the Black Pyramid at Dahshur, faced issues due to unstable foundations and was ultimately abandoned. Later, he commissioned a second pyramid at Hawara, which served as his final resting place. This pyramid complex included a large mortuary temple called the Labyrinth by the Greeks, famed for its elaborate design and maze-like corridors 🏛️
Amenemhat III is also remembered for his efforts to harness and manage the Nile’s waters. He initiated large-scale irrigation projects around the Faiyum Oasis to improve agricultural productivity. By controlling the seasonal floods, these projects expanded arable land and increased food production, strengthening Kemet’s economy and resources ✨
