Happy Independence Day, Gabon!
🇬🇦 Happy Independence Day, Gabon! 🎉
On August 16, 1960, Gabon gained its independence from France. Long before colonial borders, this land was home to Bantu-speaking peoples whose migrations carried language, spirituality, and cultural traditions that still live on today.
The name Gabon comes from the Portuguese word “Gabão,” meaning cloak, inspired by the shape of the Komo River estuary. Yet the true story of this nation is written in the resilience of the Fang, Mpongwe, Punu, and other Bantu groups who shaped its identity.
Today we honor 65 years of independence—and centuries of ancestral strength. Drop a 🇬🇦 if you’re celebrating Gabon!
