MALI, BURKINA FASO & NIGER FORM NEW SECURITY ALLIANCE WITH RUSSIA. Moscow has signed a military cooperation agreement with the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), offering security support to counter imperialists forces and foreign-backed militant groups that have been destabilizing the region. After years of failed Western interventions, political instability, and multiple military take over, the three nations have shifted their allegiance to Russia, severing ties with both France and the West. Russian Defense Minister Belousov affirmed,

“We stand with you in your fight to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Malian Defense Minister Camara noted, “Defense remains the cornerstone of our partnership.” This joint consultation between Russia and the AES marks a significant step, signaling the emergence of a new security landscape in the Sahel.
