THE BLOOD SHALL PURSUE THEE
THE BLOOD SHALL PURSUE THEE
The Lord declared through Ezekiel, “I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee: sith thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee” (Ezekiel 35:6).
This is a solemn pronouncement of divine justice against those who take pleasure in bloodshed. God’s attribute of justice will never allow wickedness to thrive forever. Those who shed innocent blood will surely face the wrath of the Almighty.
Nigeria is a land soaked in blood. From the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970), where over two million people died, to recent decades marked by incessant killings, the cry of innocent blood has never ceased.
According to the Global Terrorism Index and Amnesty International reports, tens of thousands have been killed by insurgents, bandits, herdsmen, and kidnappers in the last 15 years alone. Communities in Benue, Plateau, Southern Kaduna, Borno, Enugu, and Imo have witnessed mass killings without justice. The Lekki Toll Gate shooting of October 2020, where unarmed protesters were allegedly killed, remains a dark spot. Sadly, perpetrators roam free while victims’ families mourn.
Scripture is clear: “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man” (Genesis 9:6).
These murderers may escape human judgment, shielded by power, corruption, and a failed justice system, but they cannot escape the vengeance of God.
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” (Galatians 6:7).
History confirms this: tyrants and oppressors eventually meet divine judgment, whether in ancient Edom as Ezekiel prophesied, or in modern times when despots fall suddenly. Nations and individuals that oppressed the innocent paid a heavy price. Think of ancient Babylon, which thrived on violence and injustice but fell to the Persians in 539 BC as foretold by the prophets (Isaiah 13:19). The Roman Empire, though powerful, eventually crumbled under the weight of moral decay and relentless persecution of Christians.
Even closer to our time, Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime, responsible for the Holocaust and the slaughter of millions, ended in disgrace and destruction in 1945. These are stark reminders that God’s word is unchanging: “Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man” (Genesis 9:6).
Today, the blood of innocent souls in our land cries louder than ever, speaking from the ground (Genesis 4:10). From ritual killings to unjust wars, corruption, and systemic oppression, their voices rise before God for vengeance (Revelation 6:10).
Every life wasted unjustly calls for divine retribution. God will visit those who sponsor terrorism, orchestrate killings, and use violence for political or economic gain. Yes, these enemies of God’s people, those who profit from violence, injustice, and evil, will not go unpunished. God says: “Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred… I will prepare thee unto blood, and blood shall pursue thee” (Ezekiel 35:5-6). The same God who judged Edom will judge them. The blood they refused to hate will pursue them, into their homes, their wealth, and their generations.
Let us therefore prophesy against every agent of darkness, rise and prophesy against these forces of evil, opposing God’s people. Their time of reckoning has come. Evil may seem to flourish for a while, but divine justice is sure: “When the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it” (Psalm 37:34).
Pray that God’s righteousness prevails in our land.
Nigeria shall not remain a slaughterhouse; the Lord will avenge the blood of His people, for “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord” (Romans 12:19).
Pray and declare: Every hand that shed innocent blood shall not escape. The blood shall pursue them until justice is served!
