Story of the Ohodu in Ehugbo, Afikpo. (Humans with tail)

A very long time ago existed humans with tails who walked in Ehugbo among others without being noticed of being different. Oral history has it they lived in a forest in border between Ugwuegu and Akpoha, they were said to be the first to come to the market and the last to leave and they were called Nde Ohodu.

The Ohodu’s were trade merchants who involved in buying and selling in the then oldest market in Ehugbo the Ahia Okpu Ugwuegu, A big market established by the Egus are the early settlers in Ehugbo.

Days went by, months and years the Ohodu’s coexisted in harmony with the Ehugbos until rumors spread of their carefulness, schedules of reaching the market before everyone and leaving after everyon. suspicion rose of how they sit at a particular spot with dugged holes. These holes were to hide their tails out of sight to avoid being noticed.

Until one day the Egus found out about the holes and the tails but without concrete evidence they came about with an idea of using the water extracted from the palm kernel to lure soldier ant into the dugged holes.

When the ohodus came the next day, they sat there as usual without thoughts of conspiracy and those ant began to bite them, at the long run they couldn’t endure the discomfort and pa!n, they decided to rise during the day and flee as they couldn’t endure for darkness to cover. So they were spotted by all the crowd at the Ahia Okpu Ugwuegu market that day and so f£ar of living among the people lead to their demise from Ehugbo till this day no one knows their where about also Oral history has it that they laid a curs£ on the Egus before leaving.
