Title: Emene: The King’s Last Son 42.
King Nnanna handed a palm wine to Obiagu on his welcome home ceremony.
Obiagu received the palmwine but gave it back to King Nnanna. King Nnanna was surprised when Obiagu gave him back the Palm wine.
Drink it. Obiagu said to Nnanna. But it’s yours brother. King Nnanna said. But you poisoned it brother. Obiagu said.
I did not p0ison it. Nnanna said. If you didn’t p0ison it. Then drink it. Obiagu said to King Nnanna. King Nnanna didn’t want to drink it. He was looking at the villagers.
My brother p0isoned my drink. Obiagu announced to the Villagers.
Brother don’t make such allegations. King Nnanna said.
Then drink the palm wine. Obiagu said to King Nnanna. Lotanna stared at Nnanna.
One villager echoed “Drink the palm wine”.
Drink it! Drink it!! The villagers started singing out loud to King Nnanna.
King Nnanna collected the palm wine.
“Back in Mgbidi village”
That morning Obinna went back to the palace to meet Princess Urenna who was mourning her late father and her brother. It’s been triple d3ath in the palace in the past few days.
The elders of the village assembled in the King Palace. The Onuwo didn’t waist time, after some minute of silence for the late King. He made Obinna in charge of the palace until the King is buried. Just as Azuka planned.
The King will be buried after the next two market days.
Azuka was in the palace when transfer of power was made to his brother. Princess Urenna couldn’t attend because she was still mourning.
All the elders left afterwards and Obinna was alone with the onuwo and they had some discussions.
Few minutes later the Onuwo left.
Brother I told you. This will eventually work and fall in place. Azuka said to Obinna. Obinna just smiled. We did it. Obinna said and hugged his brother.
Ejike was outside waiting for the two brothers to be done.
Few minutes later he came inside. It’s time. He told the brothers.
Brother I need the warriors that will f0ll0w me to Emene now. Azuka said.
Immediately Obinna called the chief guard to assemble all the warriors. He was in charge now. And his words were final.
I’m coming with you brother. Obinna said to Azuka. You have a Kingdom to rule. Azuka said to Obinna.
We will conquer Emene together. I want to stand by you. Obinna said.
Azuka hugged his brother deeply.
“Back at Emene Village”.
King Nnanna looked at all the villagers and wanted to run away.
But he will be a coward if he does run away. He will be caught even before he takes a step.
Everyone was still waiting for him to drink the palm wine.
He decided to drink it. All of it. He rather d!e as a King; Than d!e as a commoner.
You see!!! I have drank it!!! It’s not p0isoned. King Nnanna said
And just like that, the ceremony continued. People danced and made merry.
An hour into the middle of the ceremony, the King excused himself to go to his chambers.
The villagers were still celebrating when the King’s personal maiden rushed outside and screamed that the King is d3ad! White foams were coming out of his m0uth. Indeed he p0isoned the palm wine. But he drank it anyway. It was better for him to d!e as a King than to d!e as a nobody, st0ned by ordinary villagers.
“Back at Mgbidi Villager”.
The Warriors were arranged for Azuka and in the Evening just as planned; They matched to Emene Village to take over the throne of Emene.
Azuka and Obinna led the warriors.

Title: Emene: The King’s Last Son 42.

This chapter is absolutely gripping and powerfully written! 👑🔥 The tension between Obiagu and King Nnanna is masterfully built—the palm wine scene is unforgettable, with the villagers echoing “Drink it! Drink it!!” like a chorus of fate. The moral weight of Nnanna’s choice—choosing to drink and die as a King rather than be disgraced—carries such dramatic depth.
