THE KING TESTED HIMSELF ON A MAID TO KNOW IF HE IS CABLE OF FATHERING A CHILD.
In the palace
King Azuka wasn’t happy.
“Ahh, Amaka is dead,” he said to himself sadly. “She is such a hardworking young lady. I wonder why she endangered her life trying to abort pregnancy — now she is dead.
She should have just simply told the owner of the pregnancy. Even if he denied it, that shouldn’t still be enough reason for her to put her life at risk,” King Azuka said, unknown to him that he is the one responsible for the pregnancy.
Because he had been charmed, he couldn’t remember anything that happened between them months ago; it seems something erased his memory.
“My king, I feel bad for her grandma. I wonder how the old woman will be feeling now?” Ngozi said.
“You are right, my queen. I need to quickly make preparations on how to carry her corpse from the hospital and find someone to help the old woman bury her granddaughter.”
The king’s phone started ringing. He picked the call and placed the phone on his ear.
It was Williams calling.
“Hello, my king,” the voice said over the phone.
“Yes, Williams,” the king replied.
“My king, there is good news.” The voice sounded happy over the phone.
“What kind of good news?” the king asked with curious eyes.
“My king, Amaka has awakened — or should I say resurrected,” Williams said over the phone.
“Awake?” the king asked back, surprised.
“Yes, my king, she has awoken very healthy.”
“I am so happy for her. I thought we lost her,” the king said.
“I thought so too, but God brought her back. God is great,” Williams said.
“Indeed, God is great. Please drive them back as soon as possible. I can’t believe what you just told me; now I need to see it with my eyes,” King Azuka replied, smiling.
“It’s alright, my king. The hospital bill is ₦150,000. I will forward the doctor’s account number to you soon.”
“It’s alright,” the king said and hung up the call.
“My king, did I just hear that Amaka has resurrected?” Queen Ngozi asked.
“Yes, oh my queen, I was surprised. Williams said she has awoken.”
“God is great,” Ngozi said.
“Yes, you are right, my wife, God is indeed really great.”
“Are they coming back today?” Ngozi asked.
“Yes, they will soon return. I can’t wait to know who got her pregnant among the guards,” King Azuka said.

Back in God Matthew Hospital
Amaka and her grandma with Chioma were sitting down on the bench in the hospital compound.
Williams returned from the doctor’s office; he had gone into the doctor’s office a few minutes ago to forward the doctor’s account number to the king.
“Amaka, we are about to return home. But the doctor wants to speak with you,” Williams said.
“Me?” Amaka asked.
“Yes, by the left — that’s his office,” Williams said.
“Mama, I’m coming,” Amaka said as she started walking towards Dr. Matthew’s office.
“Good afternoon, sir,” Amaka greeted respectfully as she stepped inside the office.
“Afternoon. How are you now?” Dr. Matthew asked.
“I’m perfectly fine, sir, and thank you for everything you have done for me. It is by the grace of God and you that I am alive now,” Amaka said.
“It’s okay, Amaka, all thanks to God, because I had given up — I thought you were dead. So, glory be to God,” Dr. Matthew said.
“But there is something I must tell you,” Dr. Matthew said with serious eyes.
“Don’t ever in life take that pill you took today again, no matter what happens. The pill is dangerous; it is not advisable to use pills for abortion.
If at all I had anyone to support me, I would have filed a case against whosoever sold that drug to you. Because pregnant women aren’t allowed to take anyhow drugs — not to talk of that kind of drug.
So please be careful. You are just a lucky girl; God really loves you, that’s why He gave you a second chance. Please don’t misuse this opportunity because such chances are rare.
I don’t know the reason why you tried aborting this pregnancy, but whatever the reason, don’t try it again. Even if you don’t know the father of the child, keep it, because it’s obvious such children are blessings. (A word is enough for the wise.) God is with you.” Doctor Mathew concluded.
Amaka, who had been listening since, finally spoke. “Thank you, sir. I so much appreciate all the encouragement you just gave me for free,” Amaka said.
“You are welcome. You can always come here if you want to talk to me. I would have given you my phone number, but I don’t know if you have a phone,” Dr. Matthew said.
“I don’t have a phone, sir, but you can write it for me; I will keep it. I can borrow a phone to call you if I need to talk to you.”
Dr. Matthew wrote his number on a small piece of paper and handed it over to Amaka.
And she collected it and said, “Thank you.” Amaka started walking outside.
But just as she was about to step outside the office, Dr. Matthew called her back.
“Amaka, take this,” Dr. Matthew said as he stretched one bundle of ₦1,000 notes to Amaka, but she resisted.
“Amaka, take it please, don’t say no, please,” the doctor pleaded.
Amaka collected it with a trembling hand.
“Amaka, use that little change to buy anything for yourself. I just gave you out of generosity and happiness that you didn’t die when I thought you were dead. Please don’t see it as anything.”
Amaka, who was speechless — no one had ever dashed her such an amount of money in her life — finally fell to her knees and started thanking the doctor.
“Come on, stand up and stop thanking me. We are meant to dash out if we have. You can go now, but don’t stress yourself too much, oh — you know you are pregnant,” Dr. Matthew said.
“Thank you, Doctor, you are really kind. My God will continue to bless you,” Amaka said.
She quickly hid the money inside her shirt and walked outside.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting, the doctor was telling me something,” Amaka said as she came outside.
“You all should get inside the car, let’s go. The king can’t wait to see you,” Williams said, as they all got inside the car and Williams zoomed off.
Inside the car, Amaka’s grandma was still looking happy but also full of questions to ask Amaka. But she didn’t want to disturb her now; she wanted her to rest first.
But Amaka, on the other hand, knew that thousands of questions were running through her grandma’s mind.
Amaka was wondering how she was going to open her mouth and tell her grandma that she was pregnant after lying to her.
“I have disappointed Grandma. I saw the look in her eyes. I was so scared to tell her the truth earlier, even after she asked me, I still denied it. And now she has found out herself.
I feel really disappointed in myself. But I still thank God for giving me life. I will take the advice the doctor gave me — I will never try to abort this pregnancy again, no matter what happens next.
But I am really, really disappointed in myself for lying to my grandma,” Amaka thought in her mind.
Mama Ebere, her grandma, who was watching her, knew that a lot was running through Amaka’s mind too.
She drew close to Amaka and whispered something into her ears.
“Don’t worry, my child, everything will be fine. I’m not angry at you,” she said.
Chioma, on the other hand, was boiling with hatred but she put up a smile to cover it.
“Why would this useless girl come back to life? Is it magic or something? I thought she was dead? Or is she a witch?” Chioma asked herself countless questions in her mind.
“But no matter what, I’m not giving up, Amaka. Not so fast. I will strike again when you will not be able to survive it, Amaka.” Chioma whispered in her mind.
Some minutes later, they arrived at the palace.
Amaka’s heart skipped immediately she saw the king. But she had determined to tell the king the truth no matter what, because she saw that as the best option now.
As they all walked closer to the king, Amaka’s grandma knelt down and started thanking the king.
“My king, thank you for caring so much for my granddaughter,” she said.
“No, no, stand up, Mama. You are too old to be kneeling to me. Just thank God, because He is the one that saved her, not the hospital,” King Azuka said.
“Let her kneel down and thank us, because we are her gods. If not, her daughter must have been dead by now. Old woman, have you ever dreamed of entering such a beautiful car?” Queen Ijeoma said mockingly.
“Keep quiet, woman, and mind your manners,” King Azuka fired back.
“Congratulations, our Amaka, welcome back to life. We all thought you were dead,” the king said, smiling.
“Thank you, my king, I appreciate what you have done for me,” Amaka said.
“You are welcome. But Amaka, I heard you wanted to abort pregnancy — that resulted to this. Who is responsible? Among the guards? You should have told me, I would make the person take responsibility for his actions instead of you endangering your life. Now tell me, who is responsible?” King Azuka asked.
Amaka’s heart beats a thousand times faster than normal — not knowing how to answer the king’s question.
