AN OPEN DECLARATION TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU: A DEMAND FOR FAIR JUSTICE AND THE RELEASE OF MAZI NNAMDI KANU
Mr. President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

This message is brought to your notice, and more importantly, for the world to witness and acknowledge the rightful demand for Fair Justice by the Nigerian people.

Nigerians, particularly those from the Southern region, have endured a long history of perceived unfair judgment and a frustrating disregard for the rule of law. As the number one citizen of this Nation, the mantle of leadership demands that you ensure every citizen and every region is treated with unequivocal fairness.

While many Nigerians may have, in their characteristic way, expressed frustration with your government through jest or criticism—a direct consequence of the continuous socio-economic and security challenges—the underlying issue remains the pursuit of a functioning state. The prolonged detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu under the Federal Government’s custody is a monumental stain on our judicial and political landscape, and it is a major catalyst for much of the unrest.

The Imperative for Immediate Release
It is a widely reported concern that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s health and physical appearance are not stable, necessitating urgent medical attention and access to his family and people. Holding a figure of his magnitude, especially one with a massive following, is an act that causes far more harm than any perceived good.

We must remember that our courts have, at various points, given him his freedom. Yet, the political system has repeatedly seemed to defy these court orders. This blatant disobedience erodes the foundation of our democracy and fuels the narrative that certain individuals benefit from his continued incarceration, prioritizing personal or sectional gain over the Nation’s peace.

The persistent and tragic daily denial of peace and security—from terrorism and general insecurity to other vices—is often linked, directly or indirectly, to the situation surrounding Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Releasing him is a critical step towards de-escalation.

Inconsistency in Justice and the Threat to Stability
Mr. President, the glaring inconsistency in our justice system is an open wound. It is not lost on the citizens that viral videos and official reports have shown the government granting pardons, peaceful agreements, and even integrating notoriously violent elements like bandits and armed herdsmen into security or rehabilitation programs. Their crimes against humanity arguably warrant a punishment far greater than the crimes Mazi Kanu is accused of.

When justice is so manifestly one-sided—offering rehabilitation to terrorists while holding a political agitator in defiance of court rulings—it does not create an environment for peace. Instead, it breeds deep-seated resentment and can lead to the very instability it seeks to prevent. Fairness to all, not one-sided application of the law, is the bedrock of a stable democracy.

A Call for Decisive Action
Mr. President, you now have the opportunity to chart a different course. It is for this reason that I, General Asabuja, will always speak truth where lies have been spoken.

With the knowledge of a potential mass protest scheduled for October 20th, intended to amplify the voice for his freedom, I urge you to act with the wisdom of a true statesman. It is in your best interest to set Mazi Nnamdi Kanu free before this due date. Taking decisive action now would prevent the unnecessary loss of innocent lives or placing our citizens into a position of confrontation, all for a just cause that should have been resolved by your office.

Your mandate is to renew the hope of all Nigerians. Let that hope begin with an undeniable commitment to justice.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, this is my Declaration.
