BITTER UNION

“IT IS THE JUDGMENT OF THIS COURT that Mr. Jude Fabian, have been found guilty of the egregious offenses of firstly, masterminding the violation of Mrs. Davina’s bodily autonomy. Secondly, conspiring with a doctor Dr. Nathan to intentionally inflict severe psychological distress and mental harm upon a minor Miss Stephanie Fabian, currently aged six. As punishment for your egregious actions whilst prioritizing justice for the victims involved, this court hereby sentences you to serve a term of ten years’ imprisonment!” The chief judge proclaimed looking at a dejected Jude who is standing inside the dock.

Jude’s mouth went agape when he heard the sentenced jail-term he has been given.

Ten years in prison without freedom…?

Oh my God! Jude thought in his mind and shortly after, his face gradually became gloomy as tears of regrets filled his eyes.

The chief judge began speaking out again.

“Mrs Judith Dennis, you mischievously attempted to kill a six year old girl by name miss Stephanie which is a grave legal offense. Thankfully, miss Stephanie survived the attempt, hence you will be getting a light sentence. As punishment for your crime, you are sentenced to two years imprisonment!”

As soon as she heard her punishment from the judge, Judith’s face became gloomy and she bent her head and started to cry bitterly.

Oh God, what has she gotten herself into…? She lost Anita prematurely and now this…?

Totally ignoring Judith’s facial expression, the Chief judge continued declaring his judgements to the other offenders.

“To Mr. Nathan Timothy, having been convicted for the serious crimes of non-consensual exploitation of Mrs. Davina and the intentional infliction of emotional distress upon a six-year-old child through your complicity with Mr. Jude Fabian, this court hereby sentences you to eight years’ imprisonment. Furthermore, your medical license is hereby revoked and confiscated. This judgment reflects the severity of your offenses and the court’s unwavering commitment to upholding the rights and safeguarding the well-being of victims.”

Mr. Nathan Timothy blinked his eyes severally to be sure he wasn’t dreaming and when it occurred to him that he wasn’t, he lifted his two hands on his head as he repeatedly muttered ‘I am finished’ under his breath.

“As for you Mr Ray Gabriel, for your role in the conspiracy to exploit Mrs. Davina’s body autonomy, masterminded by your friend Mr. Jude Fabian…you shall hereby serve a four year prison term with hard labor” The chief judge proclaimed in conclusion and at the same time, he hit the gavel loudly on the desk which marks the end of the case proceeding.

Hearing his share of the judgement, Ray sighed tiredly as though he was actually ready to accept whatever sentence he would be given.

He is happy that at least, he was able to ask for Davina’s forgiveness that day at the hospital and although it wasn’t easy, Davina forgave him after days of persistent pleas.

Ray turned to look at Jude who was standing in a dock directly opposite him and even though it wasn’t necessary, he still felt sorry for his friend who would have to let go of ten years of his life because of his selfishness.

Out of concern for his friend, Jude equally turned his gaze from the judge to look at Ray. Coincidentally, their eyes collided with each other and they kept looking at each other.

Jude heaved deeply upon seeing how Ray looked so defeated, sad, and full of regrets.

Deep within him, he feels really bad and deeply regrets dragging his friend Ray and the doctor into this mess, all because of his twisted view on how marriage should be like.

Unable to continue holding the eye contact as a result of the guilt in his heart, Jude tore his gaze away from Ray and was now looking at the spectators in the courtroom gallery.

His eye caught somebody among the audience and his heart beat increased immediately
It wasn’t Davina.
Davina was the person he was looking out for but his eyes caught another
It wasn’t whom he expected to see first, He wished his eyes haven’t landed there first.
