WHO IS MARGINALIZED IN NIGERIA? PART 2
WHO IS MARGINALIZED IN NIGERIA? PART 2
When Ironsi was later k!||€d in 1966, another military takeover happened and Yakubu Gowon, (North Central), became Head of State.
At this point, Nigeria was already shaking politically, but it was not yet w@r as there were still opportunities to avoid it. Meetings were held, and dialogues were attempted. The famous Aburi meeting in Ghana tried to settle the matter with agreements reached, but when it was time to implement it, both sides interpreted it differently and trust finally collapsed.
Now ask yourself:
Was that w@r really necessary?🤔
A region that had produced both a Governor-General, a Senate president and a military Head of State within 5 years of independence, suddenly picked up gu^s against same Nigeria.
Please… were they in captivity?😔
Or was something else pushing the conflict?😏
Truth be told ehn… breaking out of Nigeria wasn’t even the issue as Nigerians really didn’t have a problem letting them go if it was genuinely about self determination. The real wahala came from outside; those who gave us independence and mastered the art of “divide and rule.”
The moment Biafra was declared, global powers began to play their usual games.
Gowon created 12 states in 1967 to reduce the fear of domination, but the SouthEast saw it as an att@<k, and on 30th May 1967, Ojukwu declared the Republic of Biafra. One month later, in July, the w@r started.
Here’s the part people hide: 👇🏼
The West was supplying both Nigeria and Biafra as it became a marketplace of w€@p0ns and foreign interests. Except that the “West” sells to the highest bidder, because w@r is business, and “bl00d” is currency.
As soon as Biafra ran out of funds to purchase more w€@p0ns from the West, the blockade tightened, and support for them reduced drastically… because when your money finishes in an international arms market, your allies disappear.🥴
This is the part they don’t tell you when they say “The West didn’t support Biafra Republic.” Actually, the West did support “Biafra Republic” but they ran out of money that led them to improvise.👌
Ask yourself again:
Was Nigeria supposed to fold its arms and watch another army declare independence on its soil without responding? Every country on earth f!ghts when a part tries to break away. It’s called “political sovereignty,” and not “marginalization.”
Biafra went to w@r, but Nigeria had more resources to sustain international backing for @rm$, and more control of air, sea, and land. The East fought hard, but they were outmatched.
Now, one of the long term wounds from that w@r is something Nigeria still feels today on her economy… the loss of “BAKASSI PENINSULA.” An entire LGA full of resources, vanished to Cameroon, because of political decisions taken during a w@r that could’ve been avoided.
Oh, Nigeria bl€d, as the economy really broke… Civilians starved, and both sides suffered the trauma. After, Ojukwu finally surrendered, Gowon remained Head of State… except that w@r has consequences and “the Law” remains “The Law.”
Murtala Mohammed came next (NorthWest), then Olusegun Obasanjo, (SouthWest), but all military rule. Then came the 2nd Republic in 1979 of Shehu Shagari (North West) as the democraticaly elected President, and under him…
Joseph Wayas (South-South) became Senate President.
Edwin Ume-Ezeoke (Southeast) became Speaker of the House (1979 – 1983). Life moved on and politics continued…except that Nigeria tried to heal.
Now, pause at something powerful here: 👇🏼👇🏼
Despite the w@r, the Southeast was still brought back fully into Nigeria’s political structure and not shut out. They re-entered politics, held positions, contested elections, and served in government again.🥰
Still, some today want to retell history upside down by bl@ckma!|!ng an entire nation emotionally, shouting “Marginalization!” without telling the truth of the roles their elites played, the power they held, and the decisions that led the country into w@r.😌
Where exactly was the Southeast “marginalized” after the Civil War, if they were reintegrated, given political space, carried along again, and even allowed the “Number 4 citizen position” of the country, under a northern president… after leading Nigeria into an unnecessary conflict?🧐
Think about it o… 🤨
If we truly want healing, then Nigerians must know this history exactly as it happened; the truth version, and not the emotionally m@n!pulated version, but the real one.🥴
From here, I’ll continue and let every Nigerian decide who is truly “MARGINALIZED…”🥹
And it’s time we tell ourselves whose region is marginalized.📌
