  1. Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi
    He was Nigeria’s first Indigenous General and became Head of State after the January 1966 coup. As Chairman of the Supreme Military Council, he attempted to unify the country through Decree No. 34, which introduced a unitary system of government.
  2. Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Gowon

  3. Commodore Joseph Edet Akinwale Wey

    He served as the Military Governor of the Northern Region. Katsina was respected for helping calm tensions in the North after the January coup and for maintaining order during a volatile time.

    Adebayo was the Military Governor of the Western Region. He worked to stabilize the region, which had experienced political crisis before the coup, and maintained firm administrative control.
  9. Lieutenant Colonel David Akpode Ejoor
    Ejoor served as the Military Governor of the Mid-Western Region. He was known for his professionalism and for keeping the Mid-West relatively peaceful during the 1966 national upheavals.
