SHEIKH DR. AHMAD ABUBAKAR GUMMI AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA BANDITS

It is not in my character and tradition, as a student of Mufti Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi to respond to the barkings of religious, political or ethnic group(s) or individual(s) criticizing, deforming the character and castigating the person of our teacher, Mufti Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi. If I indulged in such doing, I would have been on media all the time. This was influenced by the teachings of our teacher, that not all things deserve response, but continue to do the right thing at the right time so long the Almighty Allah approves it.

But I now find it imperative to respond to the actions of some gullible, ignorant and mischievous persons and groups, particularly from groups and individuals mostly from the Southern part of the country and other ignoramus calling for the arrest of Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmud Gumi for given his own contributions to the solution of his country’s problems.

I would like to bring to the attention of these wailers and enemies of the Islam/North in general that Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi isn’t in anyway, supporter, spokesperson or protector of bandits nor supporting banditry, but is exercising his constitutional rights and responsibility, as a Nigerian, in contributing his own quota views on national issues. It is part of his teachings and efforts to see Nigeria and Nigerians live in peace and harmony. Therefore, he is an advocate of peaceful resolution of a tribal war between two Nigerian tribes, Hausa and Fulani and canvass for the identification of the root causes of the problem with a view to proffering a lasting solution to it.

The Cleric embarks on a mission to make sure that the enmity and war planted between Hausa and Fulani and other ethnic groups in the North by their enemies has been resolved amicably, that’s why he keeps talking and follows it with action in order to achieve this objective which those enemies of the North are not happy with, and doing everything possible through insults, name calling, defamation of character and now calling for his arrest, all, to stop him from doing so.

Some linked him to banditry, insurgency and to, by extension, terrorism through his contact with Umar Abdulmutallab, the boy who attempted to bomb American airline on Christmas day some years ago. He was arrested in Saudi Arabia after seeing his communication with the boy. He had communicated with boy admonishing him not to take such path of terrorism when the boy’s father requested Dr. Ahmad Gumi to intervene and preach to the boy to desist from such bad ideology after he realized his boy was heading to to new religious path.

After thorough investigation by both, American and Saudi governments, they found out that Sheikh Ahmad Gummi was indeed, innocent and was even preaching to the boy, as requested by his dad, not to involve himself in that bad ideology which will take him straight to hellfire. He was later released and compensated by Saudi government for his detention before investigation was completed.

Calling for the arrest of Sheikh Dr. Ahmad ABUBAKAR GUMI by these enemies of Muslims who vowed to make the Muslims in the North fighting against each other and make the North a centre of ethnic war, is another calculative plan to further ignite crisis and set the country on fire. I would like to bring to the notice of the gullible and ignorant among them that Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi didn’t embark on his mission of meeting the Fulani bandits in the forest until he consulted and got the support and company of security agencies in the country. Whatever he did and where ever he went to meet these bandits with a view to finding the reason behind their banditry in order to proffer a lasting solution to the crisis between Hausa and Fulani had been done with full knowledge and consent of the security agencies, and most of the times with their company. Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Gumi is very knowledgeable, patriotic and law abiding citizen, who always preaches peace among the different ethnic and religious groups in the country. But this would not, in anyway, prevent him from contributing his own personal views on national issues or which approach should be applied to one Nigeria’s problem or the order, including banditry, as enshrined in the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria, just like any other citizen.

On the issue of Mallam Tukur Mamu, the publisher of Desert Herald whom many ignorant linked him with, he’s, indeed, one of the students of Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmoud Gumi, but not his spokesperson nor media aide. I don’t want to go further on that issue. But what’s available to security agencies, isn’t available to the social media bandits. Thank God I can see that in the process of his trial, the issue of former CDS committee was mentioned which many people were not aware of.

To my surprise, those social media bandits are so blindfolded by their egocentric and vested interest to the extent that they couldn’t even differentiate between supporting illegality and expressing opinion on how to solve and bring an end to illegality. They are so dull even lawyers among them to juxtapose from the legal perspective between a situation where a person supports law breaking/illegality and expressing an opinion on how to address a problem or illegality through considering the antecedents that led to such situation with a view to finding lasting solution to such problem.

While others are of the opinion that Fulani and Hausa tribal war should be addressed through taking a kinetic measure, that’s application of military power, Sheikh Ahmad Gummi is looking at it beyond that – he’s saying the problem should be addressed by identifying the root causes of the problems and solve them once and for all. Just like what happened with the Niger Delta militants during former President Umar Musa ‘Yar’adua. It’s rather social and economic problem that needs more of social and economic approach and solution which nobody can debunk that, being the genesis.

Many have resolved to going by media sensational headings or cutting one clip or the other in many of his speeches just to blackmail him. Most of those writers who wrote many hatred articles against Sheikh Ahmad Gummi have never met him in life/person nor listened to his speech or clip for five minutes. But relied on either sensational headlines of our biased media or listened to audio or video clips of his speeches that were cut or joined in order to what they wanted to blackmail.him with or generate followers on social to make money. And they resolved to writing all sorts of stupidity and lies against him – many concocting criminal quotes and attached to his name. Though, it’s a calculative attempt normally carry out by such people to achieve their satanic goal which the Government is very much aware.

We keep our fingers crossed checkmating the works of Social media bandits.
