99-YEAR-OLD GRANDMOTHER BEGS PRESIDENT TINUBU: “RELEASE MY GRANDSON NNAMDI KANU BEFORE I DIE”
In Isama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North, Abia State, a 99-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Serah Oparaocha, moved an entire community to tears this weekend as she made a passionate plea to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. She begged for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), whom she calls her grandson, saying she longs to see him one last time before joining her ancestors.
“Please, President, release my grandson,” she implored. “Let me behold him again before I meet my Creator. That would be the greatest gift of my life.”
The emotional appeal came during a solemn assembly at Ugwu Ugba, the ancestral village square, where family members, community leaders, and elders gathered to voice their pain over Kanu’s continued detention.
Reading a statement on behalf of the community, Prof. Udochukwu Ogbonna said:
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a beloved son of this land. His imprisonment has caused unbearable emotional suffering to his family and our people. We appeal for compassion and justice.”
Speakers including Prof. Leo Obinna, Ikechukwu Ndubueze, and Mrs. Victoria Ngozi Orjinanta described Kanu as peace-loving and law-abiding. They questioned why others accused of similar offenses remain free while he continues to suffer, noting that his release could foster peace and stability in the South-East.
