SOMETIMES, IT IS SO HARD TO PREACH ONE NIGERIA
I know that many Igbos are open-minded. Many Igbos oppose IPOB and Biafra. Many Igbos really want to see all Nigerians as their brothers.
But there is one problem such Igbos continue to face. That problem is that many non-Igbos actually hate the Igbos. Look at us here on social media. How do you want me to feel when I realize that you are trying to hold me responsible for a coup because of the officers who plotted the coup were Igbos? Your only reason for blaming me is just because I am Igbo. My parents did not know any of the coup plotters. I was not even born when the coup happened. But you still want to blame me for it just because I am Igbo.
That means you are a dangerous enemy. It means any attempt to be open-minded toward you is a waste of my time. It also makes it unwise for me to be open-minded toward you. It also means you are dishonest because you ignored the following facts:
- People who really knew about the coup, like General Babangida, have already said it was not an Igbo coup. You want us to ignore Babangida and follow your ignorant opinion.
- The two officers who stopped the coup were Igbo officers: Ironsi in Lagos and Ojukwu in Kano.
- The officers involved acted on their own personal goals.
- It has been said many times that the goal of the coup plotters was to put Awolowo in office and Awolowo was not an Igbo man.
Despite all this, you want to blame me for the coup. Then you must be malicious abd dangerous.
Many Yoruba officers were involved in the alleged coup led by General Diya and General Adisa against Abacha government. Those generals cried like babies as they begged Major Mustapha for mercy. Yet, it would be very stupid for anyone to try to blame the entire Yoruba race for what Diya and Adisa did or did not do.
So, keep this in mind: the more you show you hate the Igbos, the more you help people like Nnamdi Kanu. It could be your hatred for the Igbos that fuels the push for Biafra. When you accuse the Igbos of a coup they had nothing to do with, I get messages from some Igbos who say to me:
“Barrister Emeka, can you see how much they hate us and are willing to falsely accuse us? How can you tell us that we can be one with them?”
Honestly, I feel disappointed when I preach one Nigeria and you try to show me that you hate the Igbos.
