ORIGIN OF POLICE BRUTALITY IN NIGERIA
ORIGIN OF POLICE BRUTALITY IN NIGERIA
The Nīgeria P0lice F0rce was created on April 1, 1930, not to protect Nīgerians, but to protect Brītish col0nial rule.
A force designed for intīmidation and control was inherited unchanged at independence.
That is why, even today, Nīgerians fear the p0lice more than crīminals. Just the same way our ancestors were scared of the c0lonial p0lice.
It is the shadow of a c0lonial system that was never meant to serve us.
SARS was not an accident. It was the true face of that system.
In 2020, our youths marched peacefully, asking only to live, to end police brűtality.
The reply was the same our ancestors got: bůllets, denial, silence.
Till today, no one knows the number of youths kiĺled at Lekki Toll Gate, just as no one knows how many dièd under col0nial p0lice brůtality.
Here is the truth: You cannot harvest justice from a system planted in oppression.
If Nīgeria truly wants peace and safety, we must either return to genuine regional self-governance or peacefully balkanize this country so every nation can breathe.
And is it a coincidence that Police Week falls on the same date (1st April to 7th April) the c0lonial p0lice was founded?
We honour fallen p0lice 0fficers, yet we have no day to honour those who dièd because of police brùtality.
Happy Nigěrian P0lice Remembrance Day.
May we one day remember the solution to our national sickness.
