Congratulations to the new President-elect of Senegal, Bassirou Diomaye Faye!

Just ten days ago, Bassirou Diomaye Faye was in prison, where he spent over eleven months for a Facebook post authorities deemed subversive. Today, as he turns 44, he becomes the youngest President in Africa, despite this being his first ever elected office and his first time running for this position.

Born in 1980, Faye is a former tax inspector. He was just two years old when the current serving president of Cameroon, Paul Biya, came to power on November 6, 1982.
