The picture below shows the 4 regional structure for the South.
- South West Region (In White)
- Midwest + Niger Delta region (In Green)
3 South East region (In White) - Green belt Region (In Yellow)
From this map you can see that bulk of the Ijaw extractions are united within the coastal areas and included as Midwest/Niger Delta regions
This proposal takes into account historic cultural similarities, and perceived ancestral links between some middle belt tribes and those of the south south, hence it fashioned out an alignment that brings these people together under the same regional structure.
For further considerations, there’s an option to carve out Igbos of Kogi and Benue states together with parts of Ebonyi state to form a new northern Igbo State, which shall come under the SE.
Although Kalabari & Okrika are predominantly Igbo stock yet the areas were ceded to the Midwest-Niger delta region with other riverine Rivers State. Similarly the Igalas who are also of the Igbo stock are ceded to the Green Belt Region with Idoma and Ogoja etc.
For the same reason as above few communities that lies in between three major Igbo cities of Obigbo, Opobo & Bonny has been added into the SE.
