Meet Dr. Michael Okpara: A Nigerian Leader

Dr. Michael Okpara was a Nigerian politician and doctor. He was born on December 25, 1920, in Umuahia. Okpara became the Premier of Eastern Nigeria at age 39, making him the youngest premier in the country.

Okpara believed in “pragmatic socialism” and thought that improving agriculture was key to Nigeria’s success. He studied medicine and worked as a doctor before entering politics.

Dr. Okpara played an important role in Nigerian history. He passed away on December 17, 1984, but his contributions to the country are still remembered.
