HOW CIA AND FRANCE KILLED EVERY ATTEMPT AT AFRICAN UNITY FROM 1960 TO 1966

They did not kill African unity with armies. They killed it with suitcases of cash, fake coups, poison, and the leaders we trusted.

From 1960 to 1966, every African who said “United States of Africa” was either dead, exiled, or in prison. That was not coincidence. That was policy.

This is how they murdered the dream.

1960: THEY START WITH LUMUMBA
January 1960. Patrice Lumumba wins Congo’s first election. June 30, 1960. Independence Day. Belgium’s King Baudouin stands up and says: “Belgium brought you civilization.”

Lumumba walks to the mic. He did not read the script. He looked the King in the eye and said: “We are no longer your monkeys.”

The hall went silent. CIA went to work.

Lumumba’s crime was not that he was communist. His crime was that he wanted one Congo. One army. One mine under Congolese control. And he invited Nkrumah to plan a Union Government of Central Africa.

Belgium and CIA paid Mobutu 14 million dollars. UN troops were told to stand down. On January 17, 1961, Belgian officers drove Lumumba to Katanga. They shot him. They dissolved his body in acid. They kept one tooth as a trophy.

Message to Africa: Unite and we dissolve you too.

1961: THEY COME FOR NKRUMAH’S UNION
Nkrumah and Sékou Touré had just added Mali to the Ghana-Guinea Union. Three countries. One government. France panicked.

So Paris created “Françafrique”. The plan was simple. Keep 14 African countries using CFA printed in France. Keep French soldiers in every capital. And make sure every leader who joined Nkrumah was punished.

Houphouët-Boigny of Ivory Coast became France’s knife. France told him: “You break Nkrumah’s Union, we make you the richest president in Africa.” He obeyed. Ivory Coast became the base for every coup against Ghana. France moved weapons through Abidjan. They funded Nkrumah’s enemies with CFA cash.

Meanwhile, CIA opened a station in Accra with 400 agents. Biggest in Africa. Their only job: “Get Nkrumah.”

1962: THEY TRY TO KILL SÉKOU TOURÉ
Sékou Touré had survived France’s sabotage in 1958. So they tried killing him.

Operation Persil. French Intelligence poisoned his food 12 times. They failed. So they switched to money.

They printed billions in fake Guinean Francs and flooded the country. Goal: Crash the economy. Make people hate Sékou. Make them beg France to return.

Sékou gathered the fake money in Conakry stadium. Poured petrol on it. Lit it on fire. Looked at the cameras and said: “We prefer to eat sand than to eat your fake bread.”

France replied by training dissidents in Senegal. From 1960 to 1966, Guinea survived 3 invasion attempts. All planned in Paris.

1963: THEY POISON THE OAU BEFORE IT’S BORN
May 1963. Addis Ababa. 32 African heads of state meet to create Organization of African Unity. Nkrumah arrives with a plan: One Continental Government. One Army. One Currency. Now.

Houphouët-Boigny arrives with France’s plan: “Respect borders. Go slow. No Union Government.”

They fought for 5 days. CIA and French agents were in every hotel room. They bribed. They threatened. They reminded leaders: “Your aid comes from us. Your army is trained by us.”

Nkrumah stood up and warned them: “If we do not unite now, we will be picked off one by one. The imperialists are not sleeping. They are waiting.”

They voted for Houphouët-Boigny’s plan. OAU was born with no teeth. No army. No power. Just flags and speeches.

Nkrumah walked out and told Sékou: “They just killed Africa.”

1964: THEY ISOLATE THE GIANTS
With OAU neutralized, they hunted the true Pan Africanists.

Ben Bella of Algeria preached “African Socialism” and united with Nkrumah. CIA and France backed Colonel Boumédiène. June 19, 1965. Coup. Ben Bella gone. Algeria silent.

Modibo Keita of Mali joined the Ghana-Guinea Union in 1961. By 1963, France threatened to crash Mali’s economy. Keita got scared. He started meeting de Gaulle in secret. He kept Nkrumah’s money but stopped talking about Union. CIA called it “containment”. We call it betrayal.

By December 1965, the only two left standing were Nkrumah and Sékou. Everyone else was bribed, scared, or dead.

1966: THE YEAR THEY FINISH THE JOB
February 24, 1966. Nkrumah is in China looking for help. CIA gives the signal. Ghanaian soldiers trained by Britain surround Flagstaff House. They read a speech written in Washington: “Ghana is saved from dictatorship.”

The first thing they do? Cancel the Union with Guinea. Second? Break diplomatic ties with Cuba, China, USSR. Third? Open Ghana’s gold mines to American companies.

Nkrumah lands in Guinea. Sékou Touré makes him Co-President. The CIA calls it “a joke”. Sékou replies: “The joke is you thinking you killed Pan Africanism.”

But the damage was done. Ghana was out. The Union was dead. The dream was bleeding.

November 1966. France tries one last time in Guinea. Operation Mar Verde. Portuguese and French mercenaries invade Conakry to kill Sékou and Nkrumah. Guinea’s People’s Army crushes them in 48 hours. Sékou survives. But he is alone now.

HOW THEY DID IT: THE PLAYBOOK
From 1960 to 1966, CIA and France used the same 5 weapons. And they still use them today.

First, The Suitcase. Every African army had a price. Mobutu took 14 million. The Ghana coup makers took 13 million. CIA called it “retirement packages”. You call it treason.

Second, The Tribe. They told Ghanaians: “Nkrumah loves Guinea more than Ewe people.” They told Guineans: “Sékou is selling you to Christians.” They used tribe to break unity. Check your comments today. Same trick.

Third, The Fake News. They called Lumumba a “communist cannibal”. They called Nkrumah “the new Hitler”. They called Sékou “a madman who eats children”. Once they destroy the man, they destroy his message.

Fourth, The Economic Bomb. Cut aid. Crash currency. Cause hunger. Then say: “See? Independence doesn’t work.” France did it to Guinea in 1958. America did it to Ghana in 1965. IMF does it today.

Fifth, The Isolation. Make the Pan Africanist look crazy. Make him lonely. All other presidents get invited to Paris. He doesn’t. All other countries get loans. He doesn’t. Soon his people say: “Why are we suffering for his dream?”

THE SCOREBOARD: 1960 TO 1966
Lumumba: Dead.
Nkrumah: Overthrown, exiled.
Ben Bella: Overthrown, jailed.
Modibo Keita: Neutralized, later overthrown.
Sékou Touré: Survived but isolated.
Nasser: Bombed by Britain, France, Israel in 1956, survived but weakened.

Meanwhile, the pro-France club was rich and safe:
Houphouët-Boigny: Ruled 33 years, died in his palace.
Senghor: Ruled 20 years, retired to France.
Mobutu: Ruled 32 years, stole 5 billion dollars.

The lesson was clear: Unite and die poor. Obey and die rich.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE IN 2026
They killed the men but the mission survived.

Why is there still no African army? Because Nkrumah’s Union Defense Force died in 1966.
Why do we still use CFA? Because Sékou’s Union Currency died in 1966.
Why do you need a visa from Nigeria to Ghana? Because their Union Passport died in 1966.

Every problem you complain about today was supposed to be solved 65 years ago. CIA and France said “Not yet”. Our leaders said “Yes sir”.

In 6 years they killed 6 dreams. In 60 years we have built nothing to replace them.

So when they tell you “African unity is impossible”, ask them: Impossible for who? For you or for France?

When they tell you “Nkrumah was a dictator”, ask them: Who wrote that history? The man who overthrew him?

Sékou Touré said in 1961: “We are not free because we have a flag. We are free when we control our land, our army, and our money. Until then, we are just tenants.”

Look around you in 2026. Are we owners or tenants?

They murdered the dreamers from 1960 to 1966. But dreams don’t die. They wait.

The question is: Are you waiting or are you working?
