Biafra Remembrance Day 2026: IPOB USA Set to Mark 57th Anniversary of Nigerian Civil War Tragedy in Los Angeles

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) USA chapter is organizing a major memorial event on Saturday, May 30, 2026, to commemorate the 57th anniversary of Biafra Remembrance Day. The gathering will honor lives lost during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) and renew calls for justice, peace, and human dignity.

Titled 57 Years Later: Biafra Remembrance Day, the event carries the theme “We Remember. We Honor. We Stand for Justice and Human Dignity.” It is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time with a procession to the Federal Building at 11,000 Wilshire Blvd, Westwood, CA 90024, followed by a cultural display and rally. Entertainment will continue afterward at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Culver City, California.

Mazi Chukwuemeka Alozie, IPOB USA Chief Mobilization Officer, will lead the program and introduce the guest speaker, fondly known as Eze Okechukwuneye (Mike Arnold). The detailed program includes:

  • Opening prayer by Bishop Nwada Nkiru Ogamba
  • Performance of the Biafra National Anthem by Mazi Baba Chijioke
  • Two minutes of silence in honor of fallen heroes and heroines
  • Readings from multiple contributors, including a special tribute to Bruce Mayrock
  • Guest speech by Mike Arnold
  • Closing prayer

The event also features a cultural display and IPOB USA rally.

Strong Messages of Remembrance

messages:

“History cannot heal if it is ignored.”
“No People Should be Forgotten.”
“To remember is to refuse silence.”
“Our Message is Simple: PEACE. JUSTICE. HUMAN DIGNITY.”

Organizers emphasize that May 30th serves as a day to remember families separated, lives lost, and the resilience of the Biafran people. The commemoration aims to keep alive the memory of the humanitarian tragedy of the Nigerian Civil War while advocating for global recognition, healing, and peaceful dialogue.

This year’s observance continues a tradition observed by Biafrans worldwide, particularly in the diaspora. IPOB USA has positioned the 2026 event as both a solemn memorial and a call to action for justice and human rights.
