In a major breakthrough against terrorism, a senior financial leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has surrendered to Nigerian soldiers in Borno State, the military has announced.

The militant turned himself in at about 6:45 a.m. on July 25, 2026, along the Ladari–Jegarawa–Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. He was accompanied by his two male children.

He handed himself over to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade, part of Operation HADIN KAI.

Military sources say he was the Chief Finance Operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram. His job was to manage the group’s money and supplies.

Soldiers recovered from him:

· One AK-47 rifle
· Four magazines
· 101 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition
· One motorcycle
· ₦40,000 in cash

The military called this “another major operational breakthrough”. It shows ISWAP is under heavy pressure.

Army spokesperson Captain Mohammed Goni said the man gave up after recent military land and air attacks on terrorist camps.

He is now being questioned to get information that could help target other militants.

The military said about 46 terrorists and their family members have also surrendered in recent days. This shows many militants are losing hope and leaving the group.

The army is urging remaining fighters to give up now and take advantage of the government’s peace programs.

Operation HADIN KAI says it will keep pushing until peace is fully restored in the North-East.
