Ever heard of a foreign leader who became a hero in Africa? That’s Fidel Castro. 🇨🇺❤️🌍

He took power in Cuba in 1959. But instead of just looking inward, he looked at Africa and saw a shared battle against oppression, racism, and empire.

Why Africa? Because Cuba’s soul was shaped by Africa. For centuries, enslaved Africans were taken to Cuba. Their blood, culture, and spirit ran deep. Castro never forgot that.

He started small sending doctors and soldiers to Algeria in 1962. Then came the Congo, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique. Cuba trained fighters, treated the wounded, and stood with the oppressed. ⚔️🩺

But Angola was the game-changer. In 1975, Cuba sent over 300,000 troops to defend the MPLA. For 16 years, they held the line.

Nelson Mandela himself flew to Havana in 1990 just to say thank you. That’s how big this was. 🤝

And it wasn’t just war. Cuba sent teachers, doctors, and engineers across Africa. They gave scholarships to thousands of African students. During the 2014 Ebola outbreak, Cuba sent the largest medical team in the world.

Castro never set foot in Africa as a ruler. But his legacy? Written all over the continent.
