Nigeria’s Constitution says the State shall protect, preserve and promote Nigerian cultures.

The National Commission for Museums and Monuments Act criminalises the unauthorised destruction, defacement or removal of protected cultural monuments, with imprisonment and/or fines.

Yet traditional religious objects and places are still destroyed, sometimes in the name of Christianity.

Being a priest does not put anyone above Nigerian law.

You may reject another person’s religion.
You do not have the right to destroy their heritage.

Evangelisation is not cultural vandalism.
Faith is not a licence to erase history.

What was destroyed cannot simply be preached back into existence.

Until mmadu ejee nga we may not still understand this.
