🔻BREAKING: Hausa and Igbo People Have Been Brothers in Commerce for Over 1,000 Years; Historical Fulani Jihad Is What Separated Us — Ibrahim Gamji

Ibrahim Gamji has withdrawn his previous statement about the Igbo people, apologising and acknowledging that Hausa and Igbo people have shared longstanding historical and commercial ties.

IBRAHIM GAMJI WRITES:

“I withdraw my statement about Igbos. I no longer stand by it. Igbos are good people. We were programmed to hate them, and we have continued hating them. So, how do you expect people you hate to like or accept you so easily after they have suffered and been held back for more than 55 years? We are to blame, not them.

On Friday, I made a post in which I said that Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB had told his people that ‘Hausas are our brothers,’ but I thought that might not be how they felt about us. I also said I would rather relocate to Enugu, Bayelsa or Lagos if Nigeria splits.

Some people, especially Igbos, took screenshots of my post and shared them. When I checked the comments, I saw many hateful statements from some Igbos, including: ‘Stay where you are, we don’t need bandits,’ ‘Enugu doesn’t need Muslims,’ and ‘We don’t need Muslim terrorists.’

Those comments left me speechless, and I said I would rather relocate to Niger Republic, which is part of Hausaland. I also said that it is only on social media that some Igbos show concern for us.

I now accept that those comments should not represent all Igbos. There are bigots and extremists in every tribe. I also received many comments from Igbos who apologised and condemned the hateful remarks. Some reached out to me through my inbox, while others publicly addressed the issue, including major influencers from their side.

I withdraw my statement and sincerely apologise.

Hausa and Igbo people have been brothers in commerce for over 1,000 years. The historical Fulani jihad is what separated us.

— Ibrahim Gamji”
