The DEATH of the last Queen of Rwanda (1928–1994) šš
On April 20, around 11: 30 am, soldiers invaded Queen Rosalie Gicanda’s home and abducted her and six others.
Before she died, she begged her killers not to use machetes and knives. They respected her wish and shot her six times in the chest.
She was one of the first people killed in Butare, and her murder marked the start of mass killings in the area.
Approximately 7,000 Tutsis were killed on that day.
