April 28, 1953: At about 9:00pm our force under General Ihuura attacked and overran the Rwathia humungati post, killing ten tribal policemen and five humungati. The rest of the enemy fled in panic. The post was burned down. Four rifles and ten shotguns were captured. The country celebrated our victory. The following day, I sent Gen. Ihuura a letter to congratulate him for his heroic leadership.
June 16, 1953: A war report sent by General Ihuura was brought this morning by our woman village contact. It reads: Marshal, Greetings. Last night we attacked the Chomo homeguard camp. The enemy, unable to resist our heroic attack, abandoned the post and escaped into the darkness. We killed six of them and captured five alive; we executed them after they surrendered their weapons. We set the post and the enemy shops on fire. We captured quantities of weapons and ammunition and carried lots of clothing and food. Two of our men were wounded but not seriously. They will fight another day. We left the Chomo village singing victory songs.
June 30, 1953: The Manunga enemy post was overran by General Ihuura’s force; several enemies including Headman Thigiru, son of traitor Senior Chief Njiiri, were eliminated. Thigiru was a notorious killer.
July 21, 1953: I received a report this morning from General Ihuura stating that his force attacked the Kimathi enemy post in Rwathia. The post was overran and set on fire. Five home guards were killed and three were captured. The rest of them dropped their guns and ran for their lives. Our force collected all of the weapons left behind by the enemy. Captured enemies were executed.
August 30, 1953: Yesterday, our force attacked the Catholic Mission centre at Kiangonyi which the enemy was using as a military dispensary. Disguised in enemy’s uniforms a KLFA unit of twelve men walked in and without any resistance seized the mission, disarmed the security guards and took the civilians hostage. Next, the KLFA unit seized the medical supplies, equipment and weapons. They took the captured security guards with them, they were later executed; the civilians were released.
November 19, 1953: General Ihuura wrote: We ambushed an enemy patrol near the Thika River yesterday morning. Caught by surprise, the enemy returned the fire and ran. We killed a white settler, Lyle Shaw, the leader of the settler’s terrorist force in Thika district. We suffered two casualties.
December 24, 1953: Report from General Ihuura: On December 23, 1953, at midnight, we attacked the Githiga enemy post. The enemy defenders abandoned the post and took off. We killed many as they tried to escape and collected their weapons. No casualties on our side. Before we left, we set the post on fire. Now, we are celebrating our victory.
