THE TRAGIC STORY OF OJUKWU’S HALF-BROTHER MANY BIAFRANS HAVE NEVER HEARD

When people hear the name Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, they immediately think of the Biafran leader. But very few know that the Nigerian and Biafra W@r also claimed the life of Ojukwu’s own half-brother, Thomas Chidi Biggar.

Tom Biggar and Ojukwu shared the same mother but different fathers. Tom had a bright future ahead of him. Handsome, intelligent, and a promising young officer in the Nigerian Army, he could have chosen a safe life away from the battlefield.

But when the War broke out in 1967, Tom made a decision that would change his life forever. He stood with his half-brother, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, and joined the Biafran Army to defend the Eastern Region.

His story ended in one of the w@r’s earliest and most dramatic battles. While f1ghting around obollo in Nsukka region in July 1967 alongside Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, both men were k11lled during the same b@ttle.

The loss was devastating. The Nigerian Army recovered Nzeogwu’s b0dy and gave him a military burial.

For Ojukwu, however, it was more than the loss of a soldier—it was the painful loss of his own half-brother, a tragedy that reminded him that the w@r would demand the highest sacrifice, even from his own family.

Before today, have you ever heard of Tom Biggar before?
