Do you know that Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu was buried with full military honors even due he d!ed while f!ghting for Biàfra.
Despite being k!lled while fighting on the Biafran side during the Nigerian Civil Wär, his burial was conducted with military respect under unique historical circumstances.
How it Happened
Dèath in Battle: On July 29, 1967, Nzeogwu was k!lled in an ambush near Nsukka while conducting a night reconnaissance operation against federal Nigerian troops.
Recovery of his Body: Federal troops recovered and identified his body. Once the Head of State, Major-General Yakubu Gowon, was informed of his dëath, he described Nzeogwu as a “misguided but gallant officer.”
The Burial Order: Even though Nzeogwu was technically f!ghting against the federal government at the time of his death, Gowon ordered that his body be flown to Kaduna (Nzeogwu’s birthplace) and buried with full military honors at the military cemetery there.
