THE GOSPEL NOW HAS A FINE: ₦50,000 FOR PREACHING IN A BUS

Let us be honest with ourselves, this bill to fine anyone who preaches in a bus ₦50,000 is not really about noise or disturbance in buses. It is about slowly pushing the Christian faith out of the public space.

The Senate is already set to pass it. What is left is just for the President to sign and it becomes law. That is how it starts.

I have said this before and I will say it again, our biggest problem as Christians in this country is that we abandoned the table where decisions are made. We said politics is dirty, politics is evil, we will just stay in church and pray. Now the people who do not share our values are the ones making laws for us.

Let us tell ourselves the truth. A federal road can be completely blocked for prayers and no Senator will sponsor a bill to stop it. No one will call it public disturbance. But when it comes to a poor evangelist preaching in a bus about Jesus, suddenly the Senate remembers that there is law and order to protect.

That is the hypocrisy we have refused to see.

Today they will say do not preach in buses. Tomorrow they will say do not preach in markets. Next tomorrow they will say do not preach with loudspeakers, do not do open air crusades, do not preach in public at all. It does not stop with buses.

This is not the time to be lukewarm. Politics will continue to be evil as long as righteous men and women refuse to enter it. The Bible says when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice. We cannot expect righteous laws when righteous people are not in the room.

Christians, wake up. Get involved. Register, vote, contest, support. If not, a time will come when to practice your faith freely in this country will be a crime.

This is a wake up call.
