ENUGU, 1967: THE EMBLEM THAT BECAME BIAFRA ☀️🇳🇬 THE STORY OF EASTERN REGION COAT OF ARMS”

Just weeks later, that same emblem would become the foundation of a new nation.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE EMBLEM:

1. THE LEOPARD
   The totem of f£@rlessness, PØWĒR, and courage.

2 .THE TRADITIONAL WARRIOR
Spear in hand, standing guard. A symbol of the people and their leaders ready to protect the masses.

3. THE EAGLE ON ELEPHANT TUSK
   On the crest. It represents vigilance, prestige, and prosperity.
4. THE RISING SUN
   Above the shield. It symbolized eternal regeneration and a glorious future.
5. THE SHIELD BASE
   The rich, fertile land of Eastern Nigeria and its legacy in agriculture.

FROM REGION TO REPUBLIC
On May 30, 1967 ,this exact Coat of Arms was incorporated into the new emblem of the Republic of Biafra..

Context:
Before the January 15, 1966 CØŪP, all 4 Regions in Nigeria’s First Republic had their own Coat of Arms, Constitutions, and Flags.
That system ended on May 27, 1967 ,When the Regions were split into 12 States.

What started as a Regional symbol became the face of self-determination.

History is written in symbols.
