You know this beautiful lady by now.

This is Beauty.

When I first spoke with her on the phone, I had no idea what to expect. Then she walked into that restaurant in her traditional Himba attire, and our journey into the Himba community truly began.

Beauty wasn’t simply our guide.

She became our teacher, our interpreter and our bridge into a culture many of us knew very little about.

She explained the traditions.

She taught us how to enter the village respectfully.

She answered the questions I was sometimes afraid to ask. 😂

She invited me into her hut and taught us about otjize, smoke bathing and the wooden pillow.

And perhaps most importantly, she helped us understand WHY behind so many of the things we were seeing.

Throughout this series, I’ve read hundreds of your questions and comments. Some were curious. Some were skeptical. Some challenged what they saw. And many of you ended up understanding the Himba differently than when this journey began.

So today, instead of me asking Beauty another question…
